The Lewis and Clark expedition is such an important part of Wahkiakum County history, but rarely do we hear about York, Clark’s slave who accompanied him on theexpedition.
Join us for a unique opportunity to learn about the Story of York. We’ll show part of OPB’s Oregon Experience episode Searching for York and reflect on unknown history, as well as on how history affects our lives.

Speaker: Ron Craig
Ron Craig is a Filmmaker, author and Executive Director of the Astoria International Film Festival. He has a 16-year history with York, beginning with a 1999 documentary, ”Who Was York? A New Look at the Lewis and Clark Expedition”. Craig attended the 2001 White House ceremony in which York received the honorary rank of sergeant. A frequent speaker about York, Craig served on the design team for the Lewis and Clark Expedition Commemorative Coin in 2004.
