At Little Island Creamery the majority of our goat herd consists of French Alpine goats, also known as the Alpine goat or simply Alpine. The French Alpine goat breed is made up of strong and flexible animals that flourish in any type of weather and are able maintain good health and outstanding milk production. In 1922, the first documented group of French Alpine goats were imported: 18 does and three bucks. These goats came from France where the Alpine is the most popular breed. The French had bred their version of the Alpine to be a consistent size and very productive animal.
